El Book is intended for Spanish-speaking refugees or disadvantaged immigrants who find themselves in a host country where English is the predominant language. This easy guide gives others a simple vehicle with which to help them.
Remember “Steal This Book”? El Book challenges the same thing. Download it, print it out, pass it around. It’s free and designed to be freely shared.
What it is, essentially, is a free primer for people with no or limited computer access and little or no formal schooling. It’s made up of a few simple black-and-white pages with English-Spanish words and phrases, and some phonetics. It can easily be printed at home or your office, stapled and distributed. To take it a step further, download the sound file, narrated in friendly and motivational Spanish by Latin American soap opera star Daniela Alvarado and Fluenz co-founder Sonia Gil, and burn it to some blank CDs.
Fluenz urges other bloggers, churches, college groups, government agencies or NGOs — or anyone, really, who is looking for an easy way to help people who need it.
