Now, I see that La Casa del Cheesecake has somehow topped Lonely Planet’s list of things to do in Mérida. Really? Eating cheesecake in Santa Ana is the No. 1 thing to do? It’s two steps above visiting Catedral de San Ildefonso, in this list at least.
Google Street View took this shot of the corner where I believe the cheesecake shop is; it must have been taken when the building was being renovated for its present purpose. It’s amazing how much of Google’s 2009 (I think) streetscapes are already out of date. I seem to remember a very imaginative sign on the wall, so I’ll have to snap a photo next time I’m there. Update and emendation: Thanks to Jonna for correcting Lonely Planet’s inaccurate address (see comments). I have updated the photo and will file another grievance against Lonely Planet. And it’s not the fanciful facade I remember. Now I’ll have to march around the neighborhood looking for the landmark I was thinking of.
Casa del Cheesecake is also does well in a ranking of things to do in all of Mexico. It’s No. 19 of 3,938 recommended things to do in the entire country.
Oh, Lonely Planet, how you surprise me.
