Ding-dong! House Hunters International’s fourth episode featuring Mérida will air on HGTV 10:30 p.m. (E/P time) April 10. Sadly for people on the peninsula, lots of expats won’t get to see it, at least for a while. Good luck finding this basic cable channel on Cablemas. (Updated: Here’s my review.)
To hold you over until then, there’s a also a rebroadcast of the previous Mérida episode. HHI’s third Mérida visit will be rebroadcast in the U.S. 7 p.m. (E/P time) on Monday, March 12. It’s sometimes online here, as well.
Remember folks, this is just a tele-play when you get down to it. The open secret about HHI is that they wouldn’t bother following you around with a camera unless you already had a property before they began the shoot. Otherwise, you’d see a lot of unresolved episodes of HHI.
Last week we watched a newer episode, this one portraying a couple from Canada moving to Cuenca, Ecuador. On their blog, they admit they had already lived in Cuenca for two years when HHI approached them, but they agreed to reenact their house-hunting experience to promote the city. They don’t live in any of the three apartments a Re/Max guy showed them — they live much more cheaply on the outskirts of town.
Knowing all this, I still get caught up in the action and get angry when the couple chooses House X when House Y is clearly a better choice. Silly me. What can I say. The show means a lot to me, because without it, I would have never figured out this new life I’m planning. Not that I’ve really figured it out.
Updated: And yet another one after that!
