Police on Thursday arrested a man and accused him of the knifepoint robbery of an ATM customer outside the San Benito market. The robbery occurred around 10 p.m.; the arrest, booking, and mug shot for the media was all accomplished in time for Grupo SIPSE to report it yesterday.
The suspect, found after a police sweep of the area, matched the description given by the victim. I assume a surveillance video will also aid prosecution. How did police accomplish such swift justice, particularly in such a densely populated quarter?
We have so many unsolved crimes here at home, it’s ridiculous. The cops in Mérida have a certain snap (and cache of automatic weapons) that I don’t see in our police forces at home.
