He’s out to prove that Mexico is safe for your tourist dollars. He’s also out to prove that at 49, he’s still virile and adventurous. President Felipe Calderon’s guided tour through Mexico, “Mexico: The Royal Tour” airs on our local PBS stations tomorrow.
Naturally, this safety tour draws on Yucatán in a big way. Calderon climbs the pyramids and dives down a cenote. Calderon also descends into the 1,000-foot-deep Sotano de las Golondrinas cavern and helps a Lacandon Indian paddle a boat down a river in a jungle in southern Chiapas state.
I can’t wait to see this. Not so much for Calderon, who I know little about, but to see Yucatán represented on American television.
