A TV commercial hasn’t made me laugh this much in a long time. Maybe it’s not all that funny, but one called “Vámonos,” aired during this year’s Super Bowl, certainly spoke to me.
Two guys taking a long road trip a 2012 Passat DTI Clean Diesel, and for some reason instead of music they’re listening to a Spanish-language instruction tape. After 13 hours, they stop to fuel up, and they’re bickering fluently in Spanish. The spot makes the point that the Passat is a good car for long hauls, but to me, it portrays fantasy world in which all it takes is 13 hours behind the wheel before I can demand music or potato chips in two languages.
This post was not brought to you by Passat or VW. But it was brought to you in English because at this point, it’s still the only language I’m comfortable with.
