A strange day. No new posts from Mérida bloggers are showing up on my news feed. And no one’s visiting my site today. Well, not no one, but about a third the visitors I normally have by mid-afternoon. Yesterday, I felt like the center of the blogosphere. Somehow, search engines attracted 60-some readers looking for news about “Mexico: The Royal Tour” which airs tonight on my local PBS station. Today, not nearly so many.
It’s the weather. Really good or really bad weather hurts blog traffic. Today, my Mérida weather icon shows thunderstorms. Maybe lightning struck the wire that connects the Centro to Cyberspace. That doesn’t explain the U.S. readers, though.
Or, it’s a big digital distraction. Everyone’s trying to figure out the new Facebook, which surprised everyone yesterday with a complicated new interface. Most of my Facebook friends are in despair, although web tech site Gizmodo seems to appreciate the new features… The News Feed is “Twitterish” in handling content that is still “Facebookian.”
Or, there’s a big sale at Altabrisa and the meridano bloggers are shopping for something to wear at the Latin American Blogger’s Conference.
Or, another theory, that satellite landed on a bunch of readers. Let’s hope it’s not that.
