Back when we stayed at Villa Verde, we got a taste of the sophistication and elegance that Robert and Michael were bringing into the White City. Their casona off Calle 55 is wonderful, and in good hands, because this grand old mansion is perfect for entertaining, a skill which seems to come naturally to Villa Verde’s new proprietors.
The White City Ball will raise funds for AANY (Amigos de los Artistas/Artesanos Nuevos de Yucatán), which promotes craft artists in the Yucatán. Members of the Yucatán Symphony’s string section will greet guests, performing intermittently with the Maya Youth Percussion Orchestra, which will perform on ancient Maya instruments. In the beautiful gardens out back, enjoy music from Luz y Sonido Apollo.
Escuela Internacional de Chefs and Carlos Mane of Voila Catering will serve exquisite botanas, which can be washed down with wine, beer and soft drinks offered at several cash bars. With a little luck or a sharp strategy, you won’t go away empty-handed. There is a silent auction, and separately, a two-night stay at one of five upscale hotels or haciendas will be raffled.
Only 200 tickets to the gala will be sold. They are $250MN, which includes botanas and one drink. Tickets are available at Hennessy’s, the Mérida English Library, or from committee members. Street parking is limited but valet parking will be available for a fee. Guests are encouraged to take a taxi.
Oh, and did I mention that this being a White City Ball, you’ll blend beautifully with the atmosphere if you arrive wearing your favorite white outfit.
